What Texas is doing about PFAS

As of April 2026, Texas has not adopted state-level PFAS drinking water standards beyond the federal EPA limits finalized in April 2024. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has coordinated federal UCMR 5 sampling. State records show contamination has been identified near several former and active military airfields in Texas, including Joint Base San Antonio and the former Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base.

The Texas Attorney General has joined some multistate PFAS-related litigation. Public water systems in Texas are subject to the federal compliance timeline requiring initial monitoring by 2027 and treatment installation by 2029.

Based on Texas Commission on Environmental Quality publications and federal court records.
