What Kentucky is doing about PFAS
As of April 2026, Kentucky has not adopted state-level PFAS drinking water standards beyond the federal EPA limits finalized in April 2024. The Kentucky Division of Water has monitored contamination in Ohio River basin communities downstream of the DuPont Washington Works plant in West Virginia, which is the historical source of much PFOA contamination in the region.
Public water systems in Kentucky are subject to the federal compliance timeline requiring initial monitoring by 2027 and treatment installation by 2029.
Based on Kentucky Division of Water publications.
